This circular, effective from 3 July 2000, provides advice and guidance on the new arrangements that will apply in London when the Mayor of London assumes responsibility for strategic planning in the capital. In particular it provides guidance on: the new strategic planning framework for London, the Spatial Development Strategy (SDS); the process for preparation, publication, review, alteration and replacement of the SDS; the relationship between the SDS and Unitary Development Plans (UDPs); the Mayor's role in decisions on planning applications; and the Mayor's role in representing London on planning matters in the wider region and generally.
