Stanley Cloth is a high-ranking and well-respected officer in the CIA. He is also pathologically insane. Of course no one knows this but Stanley Cloth, and it is this madness that makes him such a gifted agent. He spends his days forcing Carter Letiche, a man he's convinced can take on the dreams of others, to sleep in the stolen beds of suspected terrorists. He spends his nights casually divulging secrets to his lover, a woman he knows nothing about, not even her name. Stanley's pursuit of his faceless, possibly nonexistent foes ultimately leads the three of them to the jungle city of Iquitos deep in the Peruvian Amazon. Once there, Carter struggles to escape Stanley's control, the woman is tempted to betray both Stanley and her country, and Stanley – captured and tortured – risks losing his greatest advantage by being driven sane.
