How often have you attended a wine tasting event or a party where the host is serving expensive wines? Situations where you certainly want to enjoy the wine but not sure how to respond when asked, "What do you think of this one?" For many years I felt uncomfortable not knowing how to respond. Most often I enjoyed what I was drinking, but had not a clue how to describe the wine. In what I thought was a way to avoid displaying my ignorance, I would joke about the wine saying something supid like, "I sense a hint of baby spinach", or "Wow, this taste like grapes". Those days are over. To assist wannabe wine connoisseurs, I have assembled a short list of words (Wine Speak) that one can use to reveal that your are not a total ignoramus but a true official wine taster. The purpose of my pocket guide is to have a few wine words literally in you hip pocket or purse.
