Kaliningrad is the Russian name of the city oblast (province) which in German is known as Königsberg, in Polish as Królewiec, and in Lithuanian as Karaliaucius. All these states have a strong historical and cultural association to this place. With the break up of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991, Kaliningrad Oblast remained a small Russian exclave bordering with Lithuania and Poland. The research investigates the genealogy and place of views on the problem of the Kaliningrad in political discourses of the three countries that have most direct interest in it (Lithuania, Poland and Russia). They are contrasted with the mainstream and influential American, German and European Union, or Western, discourses.
