It’s been a long journey from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Hollywood, California and all around the world. I have worked consistently for nearly 30 years in an industry that is known for its inconsistency. Since 1989, I’ve been asked repeatedly “How are you getting these gigs?” “How are you in the right place at the right time?” “Who’s your manager, agent or publicist?” “Why do the Artists like you so much?” “What is your secret?” After touring the world with “The Greats” such as Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson; vocally coaching some of the biggest Artists in the industry such as Avril Lavigne, El DeBarge and Trey Songz; being featured on multiple major network TV shows such as MTV’s StarMaker, P Diddy’s Making His Band and NBC’s The Voice; and teaching at the University of Southern California (USC), I’ve decided to document a lot of what I can recall -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- in order to help any and every young aspiring musician or anyone wanting to avoid mistakes, train wrecks, brick walls or self-sabotaging decisions that can shorten or end a career. Following The Voice gave me wisdom, success, helped me raise two sons as a single parent, assisted me through the loss of my mother, kept me sane as well as blessed me in many other ways and developed in me a strong sense of discernment. Now I understand that things aren’t always as they seem. Every good thing isn’t a God thing and maintaining character and integrity will always WIN! Ultimately, Following The Voice saved my life! Allow me to share with you the lessons, knowledge and wisdom that will help you sleep at night with a peaceful mind and heart to sustain longevity in this chaotic music industry as well as life in general.
