A quality control chart based on Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) is useful for detecting smaller shifts in parameters. EWMA control charts are better alternatives to the Shewhart mean and range chart to monitor mean and variability. The combination of EWMA mean and EWMA variance chart will detect smaller shifts in mean and variance much faster.
