Artists are like butterflies - transitory and ephemeral. This is a book about three artists who were very different people and whose early experiences in life coloured the way in which they expressed themselves. All too often the character of the artist is created by the historian from their art rather than the other way around. This book takes each artist from their very roots in order to explain how the environment in which they developed determined the part played by art in their lives and deaths. There is always a problem when writing a semi-historical novel in regard to how much of the narrative can be corroborated from known ‘facts’, and how much is a mixture of conspiracy theory and intuitive hypotheses. If it were possible to give a numerical value to authenticity, when 100% is founded upon pure ‘fact’ and 0% is pure fiction, where would I place my account of these three artists? Tom Keating – 95%. Veronica Whall – 80%. Karl Kunze – 65%. In this edition the illustrations are not in colour and therefore less expensive to purchase
