A conversation on the historical accounts, spiritual complexities and question of where our trust lies is critical in this present day and we must examine our hearts and minds as our predecessors have. Within this text are historical accounts that highlight and explain pivotal eras, leaders and circumstances that have shaped not only American history but that have influenced international events. The importance of examining the sources and rationales for our actions as a nation and the actions of our leaders can give us example of how we too must figure out for ourselves in who or in what do we trust. Influencers such as Sir Francis Scott Key, Salmon P. Chase, Governor James Pollock, Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower have been documented as pillars in the eventual establishment of "In God We Trust" as an American national motto. This book will also examine other leaders who contributed to the poignant campaign to interject the motto "In God We Trust" into every day American life and as a standard on U.S. currency. From the colonial era, when most Americans would have described themselves as Christians, to later in the post-Cold War era, our communities and religious influences have maintained. Throughout our nation's history, Americans searched for the role and relation that our country had in this world. During that self-examination, many, including leaders, looked beyond what was mortal to find greater meaning in our purpose and vitality. It is with the same tenacity and veraciousness that we must look introspectively today as individuals and as a nation as we continue to try and establish ourselves within our homes, communities, nation, and world. What does this national motto signify for us and for the United States of America? Do these fundamental truths and perspectives continue to drive our personal and national decisions?
