Social work is an academic and professional discipline that is concerned with working with individuals, families and communities with the objective of enhancing social well-being and functioning. Service, social justice, human relationships, integrity, competence and respect for the dignity and worth of individuals are the fundamental values of social work. A social worker promotes social change and social justice. Some of the areas where a social worker is employed are poverty relief, rural development, child protection, women's rights, mental health, etc. This book elucidates the duties and responsibilities of a social worker and the various sectors where they have an important functional role.
