This report presents data on the various characteristics of manure management practiced on Canadian farms. The analysis presented is based on results from the 2001 Farm Environmental Management Survey and focusses mainly on farms raising some quantity of livestock (beef or dairy cattle, hogs) regardless of the major commodity produced on the farm. Topics covered include seasonal application of manure, incorporation of manure into soil, treatment of stored manure, feeding strategies to reduce manure nutrient content, control of odours from livestock buildings, development of formal manure management plans, and adoption of beneficial management practices for manure management. The data are broken down where applicable by type of livestock raised, size of herd, & province. Appendices include statistical tables.
