According to family lore, the great-grandfather Espiridió owed his name to an oath made by his grandfather, who was rescued from a shipwreck on a Greek island. But one night on Saint John's Eve, when Amalia asks her mother for more details about this story, she unwittingly ignites the flame of doubt. This is how the writer finds herself embarking on an almost feverish quest to uncover the truth, while facing the dilemmas and demands of literary creation. This is a book about seafarers, about coral divers who ventured into distant waters during the 19th century, and also about the suffering of those who remained on land. Between the love and resilience that bind them, we find, above all, the intimate certainty that life always happens between reality and fiction.
