"Existing concrete buildings constructed before the development of modern seismic design provisions represent one of the largest seismic safety concerns worldwide. Such buildings are vulnerable to significant damage and even collapse when subjected to strong ground shaking. Collapse of concrete buildings has resulted in many of the fatalities in past earthquakes, leading to several efforts in recent years to improve assessment and retrofit procedures for existing concrete buildings. This Special Publication (SP) provides eleven papers summarizing new developments in the assessment and retrofit of concrete buildings, with a particular focus on the collapse prevention performance level. Many of the papers report on efforts by task groups of ACI 369, Committee for Seismic Repair and Rehabilitation."--Preface.
