Author Description

This is a result carefully researched, contemporary history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that peserves the engaging story of the sacrific and dedication of notable Adventists that Dr. Schwarz wove into this account, while at the same time describing recent changes and how these significant times and events of the late twentieth century were rooted in earlier denominational experience. Dr. Greenleaf shows how continuity despite, unity in diversity, and singleness of purpose amid an expanding breadth of activity have combined to produce an Adventist world that the pioneers could never have imagined. - Origins and Formative Years 1839-1888; The World in Which Adventism Began; The Millerite Movement 1839-1844; After the Disappointment; Using the Printed Page; Organizational Birth Pangs; Becoming Health Reformers; Staringt an Educational System; Worldwide Outreach 1868-1885; Organizational Development,1864-1887; Doctrinal Developments 1849-1888; Righteousness by Faith: Minneapolis and Its Aftermath-Years of Growth and Reorganization 1888-1945; The Expansion of Institutions, 1877-1900; Mission Advance, 1887-1900; Entering the American South: A Neglected Field; Troubles Lead to Reorganziation; New Beginnings Amid Crisis; The Beginnings of Globalization; New Challenges, New Institutions; Organziational Refinements; Giving theTrumpet a Certain Sound; The Final Years and Legacy of Ellen White; Two World Wars Affect a World Church-The Globalization of the Church 1945-2000; Developing a Professional Ministry; Facing Financial Pressures; The Church Confronts the Secular World; Relationships With Other Christians; The Social Conscience of Adventism; The Health Movement; Unity and Diversity; Adjusting to Internation Adversities; Membership Increases in the Developing World; Evangelism and Global Mission; Internationalizing Church Policy; Maintaing A Biblical Message; Doctrinal Discussions and Dissidence; The Twentieth Century Debate Over Fundamentals; After a Century and a
