"While working on this book it occured to me that most of the readers would fall into one of two categories. One group, those who simply enjoy my father's art work, have at this point probalby gone on to look at the pictures. The others are students of art desiring to expand their knowledge. This is not a textbook, there are no how-to instructions. I have instead assumed that readers will already have a knowledge of basic artistic principles of draftsmanship, composition, etc., and are seeking to expand their knowledge of various techniques and applications."--Author's note.
