Miles Slater is a young boy in 1947, a time when America is emerging into a new era post-war. There are still a few vestiges of the past way of life slow to change, mainly found in isolated areas. Miles boards a train headed west, far from his quiet little neighborhood in central Texas, on a route to the high canyon country of Arizona and to a grandfather he's never met. He awakens the following morning to a new and beautiful landscape with giant saguaro cactus and a distant mountain range, home to the mysterious Magic Canyon.
