SUMMER OF 51: Incredible Fifteen Hundred Mile Journey. One of several vignettes of my life growing in the Mexican Barrios of Corpus Christi, Texas, deals with an unwise decision that determined the course of my life. However, the love of family and special friends sustained my optimism and faith in the goodness of man. Every child has a dream; yet life’s unexpected blows may cause that dream to fizzle. In Summer of ‘51- Incredible Fifteen Hundred Mile Journey a fourteen year old boy, determined to change his luck, finds himself thousands of miles away from home. With no money or transportation he under takes an incredible journey in the company of Feo, the ugliest dog he had ever seen. Boy and dog become inseparable as they share formidable challenges and a love that grew with each day they trek through woods and highways.
