In the 1980s, an independent circulation of publications developed in opposition circles in the People's Republic of Poland, the so-called Second Circulation (drugi obieg). This established itself outside official state censorship. The Second Circulation included not only texts in illegally published books and underground magazines - numerous imitation stamps and postmarks were also created as a means of political messaging.
