There have been many changes in the area of higher education law, as any casual reading of the trade press will indicate. Reflecting these changes, The Law and Higher Education has been thoroughly revised and edited, trimming away older cases with less value, adding new and important cases, and providing additional resources and commentary for this Supplement. For example, generous portions of CLS v. Martinez (2010) and Fisher v. University of Texas (2013) show the Supreme Court's thinking on free exercise and civil rights legislation, as well as on race and admissions. In addition to a number of concisely edited court cases, the Supplement highlights recent developments in the litigation and legislation concerning financial aid programs, immigration law, and intellectual property issues arising in colleges and universities. Because so many readers and users of the casebook look to summaries of research and scholarship on the topics covered for classroom use, the authors have continued to provide wide-ranging reference materials and commentary. Michael A. Olivas has welcomed Professor Amy Gajda to the project, where her scholarship in faculty issues and the law of defamation has brought expertise to the casebook in these important areas. The revised and updated Fourth Edition of the Olivas-Gajda casebook will be available from Carolina Academic Press for adoption in 2015.
