Author Description

Yesterday's Whitefriars presents the definitive photographic record of the people and places of a unique enclave at the very heart of Canterbury, one of England's most historic cities. Like London's East End, Whitefriars has its own traditions and history, a Canterbury in microcosm. But Yesterday's Whitefriars is much more than just a historic record of a community. It also provides a fascinating insight into a lost way of life and exposes what many regard as one of the greatest calamities of post war town centre rebuilding. People who know Canterbury will find faces they recognise and places they knew from childhood and beyond in this lovingly crafted compilation. This is a reproduction of the original 2002 hardback.
