Author Description

This collection, Amy Lai's first book of poems, contains work already seen in small literary journals in England, as well as other poems, printed here for the first time. It gives us snapshots of perception relating to childhood and schooldays in Hong Kong, life at the Chinese University, and a more independent, if lonelier, adulthood as a Cambridge graduate student. Her voice seeks expression of the Hong Kong-British hybridities seen through Chinese eyes and as experienced by her modern Hong Kong sensibility. From the preface by Andrew Parkin
