Separated suddenly from her daughter, and all she has known, Liz makes her way to Edinburgh. She reconnects with songwriter Dave Goulder and they tour the folk music clubs, scraping a living. They lease a house in Glen Torridon and open a private youth hostel, which becomes a magnet for musicians and mountaineers. They marry. Wars rage... but this is the age of Flower Power, when the young will overturn convention, and usher in Peace and Love. Marriage is outmoded, they say, but Dave and Liz are caught between generations; too young to be hidebound, too old to be wild. Their talents display them to the world of commercial music. Television exposes Liz to her mother, still obsessed with proving she is congenitally insane. Liz crumbles. She needs security. Dave needs freedom. Music and mountains hold them together but what will they do when the highland idyll ends … and what’s to become of Flower Power as its petals start to fade?
