Before he was a poet, Ty Bard was a songwriter. Indeed, one could say song is the mother of his poetry. This volume collects the song lyrics of Ty Bard from his teen years to the present. Because of the evocativeness of melody, song is a natural medium for conveying emotion. Thus, Music Without a Voice is concerned primarily with the emotional life. As one might expect, though there are songs on a wide variety of topics, the majority are focused on romantic love – with tones which range from sentimental to melancholic, from light-hearted to poignant. If Ty Bard’s poems are the mind’s response to life, Music Without a Voice is the heart’s response – and that response is, perhaps, the more universal.
