Science and Revolution in Soviet Union (Soviet Unione Biggan O Biplab), written by Ananta Bijoy Dash, is an Important book for History of Science readers. There is lot of books written in different languages (English, Russian, French etc) about the Horrific story of Trofim Denisovich Lysenko [1898-1976], an Soviet Lamarckist & non-scientific plant-breeder in the Stalin's Communist era. But in Bengali language, this the first eloquently expressed book on the Stalinist Science. How was a non-scientific plant breeder with the full support of Stalin administration created disastrous effect upon Soviet biology for more than 25 years? It was a very tragic history and dark age in Soviet Science. Lysenko was promoted to the post of director of the Institute of Genetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences. But it was a joke indeed that, Lysenko and his supporters did not believe in Mendelian Genetics, or even DNA molecule also! The previous director, world renowned biologist Nikolai I. Vavilov was fired, and eventually arrested for opposing with the Lysenkoism. Other Soviet biologists were kept quiet, or suffered similar fates....At last Lysenko was finally ousted from the power after Khruschchev's fall in 1964, when Soviet Biology already re-entered in the dark ages.
