This text brings together the views of a group of East and West African scholars on a wide range of issues relating to the government of African countries. Subjects covered include: human rights, freedom of the media, the role of intellectuals, the place of local government in national politics, women in politics, the significance of constitutionalism, and ethnic pluralism. Each subject is covered comparatively with reference to both East and West Africa.
