Author Description

On a motoring holiday across New Zealand Graeme picks up a pretty hitchhiker, Brigitte, who has been deserted by her traveling companion. The two get on well with an unusual agreement for expense sharing on a long haul through the North Island, although Brigitte is cagey about her former touring boyfriend. The pair enjoy the well-known tourist sites together in a number of towns, until Brigitte vanishes on an aquarium visit without any prior indication of moving on. As Graeme returns to his motel the police intercept him and question him about his fellow traveler, who apparently is not all that she appeared to be. A good-bye message from her awaits him back at the hotel. She has clearly flown the coop with his money. He hears no more until an anonymous email turns up months later with an all too regretful newspaper clipping throwing more light on his memorable encounter.
