"For the years from Sept. 1708 to Oct. 1714, and from Dec. 1715 to Aug. 1721, the Council records, both original and copies, are missing…Some condensed records of the years 1715-1716 have been found among the Calvert Papers, and are inserted under their proper dates." A collection of interesting papers bearing on affairs in Maryland in the years 1697-1714 is printed as an appendix to this volume. On January 2, 1698/9 Governor Nicholson was succeeded by Nathaniel Blakiston. In July, 1702 Thomas Tench briefly held the office when Blakiston, in ill health, sailed for England. In 1704 John Seymour became Governor. "On July 30, 1709, Governor Seymour died, and his place was filled by Edward Lloyd, President of the Council, until the arrival of Governor John Hart in 1714. The Council records of Lloyd's administration are lost…Governor Hart returned to England in 1720, and was succeeded in 1721 by Charles Calvert…During his administration the boundary troubles with Pennsylvania again entered on an acute stage, and there were complaints of Marylanders of forcible dispossession and other high-handed acts. Charles Calvert was succeeded in the governorship by Benedict Leonard Calvert, a brother of the Proprietary, who took his seat July 3, 1727."
