The High Songmaster was defeated, his attempts to control the northern lords thwarted, and his inner circle of Songmasters either dead or scattered. Now Nikolas and Aelixia are free, hopeful now to find their daughter and start their lives anew...if they just knew where to start looking. But Aelixia could never return to her homeland in the wilderness of Anthera, the only life she knew as an amazon-not as an Exile, nor with her bond with Nikolas. And few of the villages in the north want anything to do with her Songmaster gifts or her elven heritage. They seek solace with an old friend, but even that solace is shattered on rumors of betrayal within the Ti'shani, the very people they'd sent Jeslyn to for protection. With little more direction than before-and more desperation than hope-Aelixia and Nikolas set out in search of the nomadic people. But who can they trust, the new Songmaster leading the Ti'shani, or the couple fleeing with Jeslyn, who had raised her as their own? As Lord Jered prepares for war, their search becomes a flight for survival with his soldiers nipping at their heels. A spy catches them up in his dangerous web, and a long-dead spirit's taunting promise for Aelixia's surrender press her to question-even if they do find Jeslyn and take her back, is anywhere safe?
