In August 2010, more than 180 scholars and historians gathered in Sitka, Alaska to listen and debate a series of more than 70 papers at the 2010 International Conference on Russian America, a largely over-looked period in American history. Hosted by Sitka National Historical Park and jointly managed by Sitka Historical Society, the Conference gathered scholars from the United States, Canada, Russia, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Venezuela, the Tlingit Nation and other Native Tribes of Alaska. Forty-six of the professional papers were selected for the publication and provides new and/or revised data and interpretations of this period and era of history.
