"Doll's Diary" is a collection of real stories about the lives of emigrants from the Soviet Union in America, their perils, struggles, successes and defeats. The names are always fictitious; places and dates are skewed. The first novel is called "The guardian of my home". A sudden twist of fate sends an American doll from a rich Hollywood family to a Russian girl Anastasia. The lonely and unhappy child, she lives a miserable life in a communal apartment in the Soviet city of L'vov, often beaten by her drunkard father. Nastya's dear doll becomes the girl's only escape from the horrifying reality and her only solace in life. Together, embraced, they survive many sorrows and finally make it to America. Here Anastasia's family becomes very successful and moves to a beautiful Bel Air mansion. When an old woman, their neighbor, visits Anastasia - the doll, dismayed, recognizes her first "mother", Kathryn, who long time ago bought her and sent to Russia. Another unbelievable twist of fate - and Anastasia and Kathryn learn that they are closely related. How the daughter of a Hollywood magnate and the daughter of the KGB officer could be sisters is a fascinating mystery that the doll vividly depicts in her Diary.
