Eliezer Ben Yehuda has gone down in Jewish history as the "Reviver of Modern Hebrew." However, this was but one important aspect of his activity. This two-volume study is both a fascinating biography of one of the founding fathers of modern Israel and the story of one of its most fateful periods. Volume 1 traces the first 40 years of Ben Yehuda's life which shaped his stormy and emotional personality. These were years marked by conflicts, struggles, and even ostracism, on the one hand, and great esteem for his achievements, on the other. Volume 2 opens with his stand in the "Uganda Episode" and ends with his death about 20 years later. In 2007, UNESCO declared Eliezer Ben Yehuda to be worthy of international recognition and commemoration for his unique contribution to humanity.
