About the Author After divorce made her a single parent, Rita Laws, Ph.D., chose laughter as one of her coping mechanisms. With a large family built through birth and adoption, and an average ratio of at least one pet per child, there was never a shortage of situations to laugh about. A former schoolteacher, Laws has been a freelance writer and author for over 20 years. She and her three youngest children currently rides in Oklahoma.
