"Humanity is all but extinct. The goddess of Earth is angry. Hundreds of years in the future, humans have been replaced by their genetically altered descendants: freaks with deer antlers, tree-bark skin, and heads of ibexes and jackals. Rivalry for territory morphs into fully-fledged battle. A dangerous beast has escaped, and the Dog-Heads, who are responsible for its disappearance, are exiled. In the chaos, a Dog-Head child goes missing. Dalila, a young and protective mother, is frantic to find her daughter. She knows any number of things could have taken her, not least of which are the roaming beast, the deadly lake, and the enemies waiting at every turn. But there is another reason the child must be found: she is the only one with the knowledge needed for the Dog-Heads to escape their exile and reach a new paradise before the arrival of a long-awaited doom.
