The eastern portion of the Caribbean is home to an archipelago of smaller, primarily volcanic islands that stretch from Puerto Rico to Trinidad. They are far less influenced by mass commercialism and for the most part retain more of their cultural heritage, but with a few exceptions. Being farther from North America, it is a bit more costly to reach and cruises in particular generally are of longer duration. But here is where you find a greater degree of traditional flavor. This book introduces the islands of the Eastern Caribbean with many changes and additions over earlier editions. It is designed to provide you with a concise, richly illustrated introduction to each island in a way not found in the mass market publications. And the aim is to also present the cream of the crop so to speak of the places to dine, to shop and the sights that are worthy of your time. The material is very current and based upon the my experience as a retired geography professor and world traveler. I find the Caribbean to be far more than just sun, sand and shopping. There are many cultural roots to explore and so many people who come on a Caribbean cruise are not well versed in what this part of the world can offer them. So come along with me on a journey through the islands of the Eastern Caribbean and explore the many treasures available.
