The goldfish, known scientifically as Carassius auratus, is probably the most popular cold water aquarium fish in the world. This is really not surprising as it was the FIRST fish to be domesticated. Its history goes back to about the 11th Century when it was selectively bred by the Chinese - initially as a food source, but later for its beauty.
