Nineteen-year-old Mack, a hunter of vampires, must confront an apocalyptic threat from the vampire leader Roman, who plans to use the soon-to-reopen magical city of El Dorado to create an army of shapeshifting bloodsuckers and eradicate humankind. Mack's routine of killing vampires is shattered by Roman's plan to unleash a new breed of vampires capable of mimicking their victims, thereby ensuring humanity's extinction. To protect the woman he loves, Kaps, a dragon shifter, Mack attempts to go after Roman alone, but Kaps, equally determined to stop Roman, refuses to be sidelined. The narrative unfolds from Mack's first-person perspective, detailing his race against time to prevent the world's end while navigating his complex relationship with Kaps.
