Author Description

Elsbeth was only five years old when World War II broke out, but she soon began to understand how the war would affect her: coping with food shortages, moving from house to house to avoid the air raids and having to get used to the pain of a missing father. Alongside these dramatic events she tells of ordinary family life: celebrations; going shopping (being forced to give the Nazi salute to shopkeepers), and school days.
