Calle de la Lectura meets the criteria for the California Primary Language/English-Language Development Basic Program. Its culturally responsive curriculum provides content equity, develops 21st century skills, and supports skills transfer from Spanish to English. Program components provide a comprehensive, coherent structure for English-Language Arts teaching and learning. Provides full immersion in concepts so that students build vocabulary early and learn how to learn. Gives standards-based instruction that prioritizes skills; gives daily plans for all grades. Includes Transfer volumes that build a bridge from Spanish language to English language instruction. Students learn to identify concepts that are the same in Spanish and English. Transfer units move from Spanish to English in a gradual progression.
