'On the Parish' is compiled from the true life-histories of old soldiers, out-of-work labourers and pregnant servant-girls told to the Justices when they were forced to seek help from the parish. Through these stories we gain a fascinating view of Holt and the surrounding villages in the late Georgian period, a view from the bottom of the social ladder.
