Doris Handy, eighty-two years young, tells the story of her community through personal memories, photographs, and meticulous research of detailed records. Full text of Black marriages from as early as 1865 are included, along with full transcribed census records from 1870 through 1940. In addition, articles copied from the 1940 out of town edition of the Kansas City CALL, tell of the births, deaths, and daily activities in the Black communities of South Callaway County.
