This primer for young boys was originally published in 1849 by Rufus Merrill of Concord, NH. The student progresses from the ABCs to three-letter words to two-syllable words to complete sentences. Throughout are black and white illustrations of animals and birds. At the back of the book is a wonderful list of Things to Remember, including number 4: "When you read a book, try to learn something from it."
