Diana Mara Henry began her walk through history as Photo Editor for the Harvard Crimson. In NYC in the 1970s, she became photographer for the rich and famous, photographing parties at the MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum, Fashion Week, and. She photographed social issues at events including the Democratic National Conventions; the McGovern, Abzug, Reagan and Carter campaigns; marches for the ERA; Vietnam Veterans Against the War; and the Women's Pentagon Action. Photographs of avant-garde art festivals, the art scene of the Lower East Side, and the Ballets Trockadero, James Brown performing at Rikers Island House of Detention, and the first Renaissance Fair bring another dimension to her photojournalism. Her photographs as Official Photographer of the First National Women's Conference, Houston, 1977, the demonstration for the term MS at the NY Times, Gloria Steinem with Baby ERA, Charlotte Moorman baring her anatomy while playing the cello in a bag, one-room schools and school teachers are unique. Her wide-ranging travels bring a vision of the human adventure from Brooklyn to California, the stud farms of France, the Greek islands, and time-travel to the Natzweiler concentration camp. Extended captions and text honor the celebrities, events, locations and people who are the salt of the earth. A dramatic portrait and quote by Ron Kovic, author of Born on the Fourth of July, introduce the book: "Dear Diana, Your photos are beautiful and represent such a powerful and passionate time in American History. I believe these photos will last and many years from now they will be looked at and studied just as Matthew Brady's haunting Civil War photos are today. Thank you for being part of history." The final tribute sums it up: "I'm so glad that you were there with your camera!...With friendship, Gloria Steinem."
