Stonehenge is the first World War I memorial in the United States and is located at Maryhill, Washington, 3 miles east of Maryhill Museum. The creator, Sam Hill, had the altar constructed and dedicated July 4, 1918. The replica of England's Stonehenge was completed and dedicated May 30, 1929 in honor of the 14 soldiers and sailors from Klickitat County that paid the ultimate sacrifice of WW I. Their names are inscribed on bronze plaques on the Stonehenge walls.
