Human relationships work like the back-to-back connecting-doors between adjacent hotel rooms: in order for anyone to pass between the rooms, the occupant of each room must first open their door, from their side. There must be two open doors. Similarly, those who would like to create a meaningful relationship with someone must open themselves to that connection, and they must invite their prospective partner to join them in relationship. Two Open Doors proposes a path to create and maintain deep and meaningful human connections. Our Western societies are often transactional and impersonal, with relatively few opportunities to get to really know one another more than superficially. Two Open Doors promotes an understanding of how we can create deeper and more lasting connections that give life meaning. It suggests a way of living and relating that can counter the current epidemic of loneliness and alienation. Two Open Doors reflects the author’s personal experiences and beliefs, but it’s also based on the science of relationship.
