
This volume consists of four fictional short stories: Oskar's Journey, The Long Dream, Herb's Fart, and Mona's Journey. Oskar's Journey takes place in 1916-1919 and describes how a middle aged man, Oskar, runs away from an unhappy home in southwestern Washington to live a new life in Minnesota. The Long Dream begins with Bert's conception in the late 20th century and describes how he navigates through childhood, adolescence, the military, marriage, career, fatherhood and old age, dealing with religion, spiritualism, societal issues, humor, and the meaning - or lack of meaning of life during this journey. Herb's Fart is a short story of a member of the Federal Reserve who tires of the game and farts as he exits it. Mona's Journey takes place in the late 21st century and centers describes how Mona, disillusioned with her life as an artist in Paris, returns to her father's salmon farm and restaurant on Hood Canal, Washington. Shortly upon her return, she experiences a life-altering experience that transforms her melancholy into boundless happiness and humor.
