How do I tell my child about their autism diagnosis? How do I describe autism so that educators and caregivers will understand? What’s the best way to explain that autism presents differently for each person? The True Hues Color Wheel© is a hands-on activity that answers these questions. Created in a fun question/answer format, your child will use a questionnaire to self-assess their support needs in eight domains of autism. An interactive color wheel then converts their score into a visual representation of the spectrum. Each completed wheel will look different—just like each autistic person. True Hues was written with research-based, neurodiversity affirming language. This activity is aimed at familiarizing an individual (or family) with eight domains of autism and discover which areas they may need more or less support in. BUT! It also allows the autistic child to learn that autism isn’t a bad thing. Needing support isn’t a bad thing. Being “different” will never EVER be bad. True Hues provides scripts to introduce (and end) the activity in a positive manner, validating the experience of the autistic individual and also affirming that the ways they differ are positive, not problematic. When a child learns their True Hues are worthy, not wrong, they can begin to self-advocate. They can begin to feel less alone. There is no inclusion without empathy. There is no empathy without education. May your child’s True Hues change this world. **The True Hues Color Wheel is accompanied by a free Introducing Autism guide, written by two mothers and healthcare professionals who have children with disabilities.
