Book E is designed for use in fifth grade. In this book students are taught how to use alphabetical order to locate names in a telephone directory, how to use a table of contents to locate information in a magazine, and how to use an index to locate information in a newspaper. Students learn how to recognize topic sentences and supporting details in paragraphs. Then they are taught how to outline information according to topics and subtopics. The interpretations skills section focuses on prefixes, maps, graphs, and diagrams. A plan for learning and memorizing information is presented in the retention skills section. Students are taught how to prepare for and take true-false, help students improve their reading rates.
