Charles Braithwaite's wife always has a lot to say and, the fact that she's been dead for ten years seems to have had little effect on her vocalising. Retiree, Charles, is thrilled when offered a trip to LA to serve as Technical Advisor on a blockbuster movie but, when the lead actress walks off the film and the project is shelved, it's a thrill of a different kind when the private jet carrying Charles & the rest of the cast & crew crash lands on Svalbard, a supposedly uninhabited slab of ice just off Greenland. Svalbard does though, it seems, have a human population - and one with customs and rules which are alien to the spoilt and traumatised westerners. by the time rescue arrives from the USA, the rescuers' disbelief and horror at the scene that they discover on Svalbard leads to the arrest and trial of the island's leader, back in the USA. One by one, the survivors are called upon to state their (very different) recollections of the events on Svalbard, including Charles whose increasingly unreliable testimony is peppered with commentary from his dead wife. As the case against Dzotlaw unfolds, the lines blur as to just who is on trial - one man from Svalbard.........or the whole of humanity.
