This dissertation is centrally concerned with the issue of media inequality in India's English-language news culture with a focus on caste as an organizing structure. I use critical-cultural frameworks and qualitative research methods to examine how the sociology of caste influences the production and representation of hegemonic constructs of identity, nation, and citizenship in English-language news, while reinforcing the exclusion and erasure of lower castes and tribal groups from media discourses and organizations.
