Abstract: Satellite Data Security has become an issue of great importance and satellite multicast systems have also faced the brunt of this issue. Communication satellites have a wide range of applications ranging from military application, weather forecasting, mobile communication, Internet, TV/Radio broadcasting to digital communication. Broadcast communications consists of large scale of multiple users and sources and with periodic member join leave occurring, security has become the biggest concern which needs to be addressed. In TV broadcasting, the Conditional Access Systems consists of the smart cards which are a major security risk and a method for secure user identification, verification and authentication needs to be implemented. For a secure satellite multicast system, encrypted data from the source is broadcasted to its various destinations. A Group Secure Key Management protocol (GSAKMP) involving Logical Key Hierarchy (LKH) protocol utilizing Elliptical Curve Cryptography primitives, which is a public key cryptography scheme, is designed. The LKH protocol limits the effects of member join- eave events by rekeying a single section instead of the complete topology tree. The Mathematical modelling and design was implemented on Network Simulator 2.35(NS-2) on a Linux operating system. The Network Animator depicts the simulations and the comparative analysis were obtained.
