The Unbidden Pain is a personal narrative on community responsibility. It takes the reader through a captivating account of an age-old tradition in Africa that carried the risk of death, to an emerging culture where global attention has been secured and the threat of excision of the most sensitive part of the female anatomy is on the path to eradication. It records extensive experiences of victory in the face of daunting challenges, doubts, crises and grotesquely odd situations faced by woman and girls, and reveals how self-assertiveness and bonding has helped to resolve the issue. It shows a practical and refreshing way of ensuring women s rights within an evolving Africa by acknowledging the place of discourse within the community, among youths, leaders and technocrats thereby giving hope to women globally.
